A Guide to Choosing A Childrens Bed
Children’s beds come in wide variety of styles. Bunk beds, loft beds, sleigh beds, canopy beds and daybeds are just some of the choices available to parents. Choosing a bed that fits your household budget and makes your child happy can bring many benefits. Bedtime can be a much easier process for everyone if your son or daughter loves his or her room.
Toddler beds are smaller beds that are generally lower to the ground making it easier for young children to crawl in and out of bed by themselves. These smaller beds leave more of your kid’s bedroom available for toys and clothing and work well in smaller rooms. Toddler beds are available in many styles and novelty themes such as fire engine beds, car beds, princess beds, sleigh beds and even beds with storage spaces underneath.
For a larger child, or if you do not want to have to replace the bed when the child is older, standard size single beds are available in many varieties. You can choose a single bed that is designed specifically for a child or you can choose a plainer bed and use children’s bedding choices to individualize it. If you are on a strict budget, this option allows you to change the décor of your child’s room as they grow without having to replace the bed.
Another popular option is children’s bunk beds. Bunk beds work well when children share a room. Because they take up only as much space as a single bed, there is more room available for storage or play. Bunk beds also work nicely if your child frequently has friends or relatives for overnight visits.
Loft beds are popular with both kids and parents. A loft bed is a bunk bed without the lower bunk. The space underneath the bed can be used for storage, play or set up with a desk that allows your child to have a special area for homework or playing on the computer. Loft beds are available that include a desk or storage underneath the bed or you can purchase a simple loft bed and customize the under the bed space.
Capitan’s or cabin beds have become popular in recent years. These beds generally sit higher than a standard bed to allow for storage underneath the bed but are not as tall as a loft bed. A cabin bed can be a good option for younger children when you need additional storage space but are not comfortable with the idea of your child sleeping in a high bunk bed.
Trundle beds are another option that can provide extra sleeping space for visitors. A trundle bed is similar to a cabin bed but has a pull-out bed underneath that can be hidden when not in use.
Choosing a bed for teenagers can be tricky. While they are not children anymore, they are also not adults. Finding a bed that is not childish, but is still age appropriate can be difficult. Two popular options for teenagers are daybeds and canopy beds.
Daybeds are popular with older children. When not sleeping, the bed can be used as a sitting area giving your child and friends a comfortable place to hang around. Teenagers also like the more sophisticated look that can be achieved with a daybed.
Another choice popular with older children and teenagers, especially girls, is the canopy bed. A closed-in feel of a canopy bed appeals to many teenagers who feel the need to claim their own space. With the large selection of bedding available for canopy beds, age appropriate choices can be made that please both teenager and parents.
