Choosing Convertible Cribs

20 May 2010 3,122 views No Comment

When new parents find out they are going to have a baby the first thing they need to do is prepare a room and purchase all the necessary equipment needed for an infant. Convertible cribs are one of the biggest sellers in baby furniture because they are made to last from infancy through high school graduation, with a few mattress changes. A convertible crib is also called a four in one crib.

If you are expecting a new bundle of joy to enter the family the first thing you will want to know is if it’s a boy or girl; but you can get the crib before you find this out. In fact, there are many different items that can be purchased to prepare for the birth of your child without knowing the sex of the child first. While you may want to wait to buy a pink dress, the furniture for the nursery is a great first step in preparing your home for the newest member of the family.

Convertible cribs can be adjusted from a crib, to a toddler bed, and then to a full sized bed as your child ages. The number of brands, styles, colors, and other features can be overwhelming. To choose the crib that is right for your baby take some time to think about the room you will designate as the nursery. The design of the room will determine the placement of the crib.

It is also important to plan ahead because if you are going to raise your little one in the same home for 18 years then you want to make sure a convertible crib will fit in the child’s room at every stage of development. You will want a crib that will be able to be used throughout your child’s upbringing; which is why you will want to take measurements before you go shopping for that all-important crib.

DaVinci’s Emily CribWhile there are many different manufacturers that make and distribute these cribs, it is important to do a little research and find one that has good consumer ratings. The DaVinci brand crib is one of the highest rated convertibles because of its durability. The style of DaVinci cribs that experts prefer is the Emily crib. DaVinci’s Emily crib is one of the top rated convertibles on the market.

Some of the critics have written pro’s and con’s about the DaVinci’s Emily style crib. While it is an affordable model, the mattress will need to be purchased separately. This can be either a pro or a con depending on how you look at it. Choosing the mattress that you feel best suits your child is probably preferable to just using a mattress that comes with a crib.

The DaVinci Emily style crib has been given three to four and a half stars from three major retailers. A DaVinci crib has never been recalled for any reason; and the only real issue that has been reported is the possibility the finish may wear off over time; one way to deal with this issue it to refinish the wood on a regular basis. When you are ready to convert the crib to a toddler bed, this is a good time to look over the wood finish and determine if it needs a new coat. It is important to use non-toxic paint products and some people prefer to paint rather than stain wood furniture.

One of the most popular colors for cribs is white; a white convertible crib is just as popular as the wood styles. Parents who want color in the nursery rather than wood or stained furniture prefer white. White cribs give you a lot of flexibility in decorating the room.
