The Futon Mattress Makes the Futon

A futon is a wonderful piece of furniture, functional and attractive, efficient and always appreciated when overnight guests come to stay, but a futon is only as good as its parts and without a good futon mattress, a futon can be quite unattractive and uncomfortable.

Futon mattresses come in many different sizes, queen or full size, twin or chair mattresses. They are made by many different manufacturers and are sold through many retailers. The number of selections available can make shopping for a new futon mattress an overwhelming experience. However, there are a few things that a person can do to help make their selection easier and narrow it down to where the right choice is more obvious.

A futon mattress is unique in that the futon serves as both a sofa and a bed. Due to this versatility, the futon is a popular choice among many consumers for in a guest bedroom, in a den or even in the living room. Nevertheless, since the bed futon mattress is not used the same way as the sofa futon mattress, yet is still the same piece, it requires a mattress that is flexible, yet firm, comfortable for both sitting on as well as sleeping on.

A futon mattress is not typically as thick as is a mattress for a regular bed. Futon mattresses are made of many materials, and available in cotton, foam, inner springs, or a polyester blend for the internal “stuffing”. A futon mattress of 100% cotton will be heavy and a bit unwieldy, but it will also be firm and stand up to a great deal of use. However, it may not be as soft and comfortable for sleeping as is one made of foam or a blend. The foam futon mattresses will be lighter in weight and softer, but may not hold up to repeated wear, and may not be the best choice for one that will be used frequently. The material that a person chooses may depend on how often the futon will be used in both settings, as a sofa and as a bed.

Color and style is something that a buyer needs to consider as well, when purchasing a new futon mattress. These mattresses are available in many different colors and have some unique styling features that may be the selling point as they may better match the décor of the home, or room, where they will be used.

Before a person decided on purchasing a futon mattress, they need to be sure it meets the standards they require. If it is being purchased as a guest bed, the mattress should appeal to a wider variety of sleepers, but if it is being bought as a bed for someone in the household, it should cater to their particular tastes in firmness and comfort. The premier futon mattress is the one that best fits the needs and the budget of the buyer.
The dimensions of the futon mattress are important and special care should be taken in purchasing a futon mattress that will fit the frame for which it is being bought. It is always wise to ask if a mattress can be returned if it is not a good fit.
There are different prices for different qualities in a futon mattress and, as with everything else in life; a person will generally get what they pay for. The least expensive futon mattress may not be the one with the greatest value, and the quality of the mattress should match the budget, and the lifestyle of the purchaser.

A futon is a versatile, durable, affordable, and comfortable piece of furniture that is an asset to any home décor, but without a good mattress, a futon is limited in all of those assets. A quality futon mattress can be the difference between a great piece of furniture and one that is seldom used because it just is not all that it should be.
