A Reading Pillow Can Prevent Neck Pain

If you are one of those people who like to read in bed, you must have realized that it is really difficult to actually find a good posture for your neck to avoid neck pain. If you like to read a lot, then trying to sleep with a sore neck that can induce headaches, is going to be difficult, and investing some time to find the perfect reading pillow might be a good idea. A good pillow doesn’t cost much but it can truly enhance your reading experience, and make you pain free.

A traditional pillow is usually folded in two and then placed behind your neck to give you some support. The problem with this is that you are still in your bed and you don’t have any support for your back or your hands which can get quite worn out from holding the book in a proper position. If you are someone with poor eyesight this will be even more more important for you. There are a few different types of reading pillows, but the most simple one that you can find is the wedge pillow. This is designed to be placed in an upward position against the wall or the headboard, providing support for all the way from your lower back to your neck. Usually you will need to add your sleeping pillow behind your head, but there are also wedge pillows with neck support, that have a specially designed neck supporting pillow.

For reading in bed, pillows are quite useful but since sleeping pillows are designed for just that, you will need to go a little bit further. A specially designed bed reading pillow will have not only suport for your back, but also your ned and your arms. The most sophisticated models will convert your bed in to a sofa chair almost, and not only make your bed a great place to read the newspaper, your favorite book, but also make it easy to watch the TV, and maybe a movie. Add a tray on your lap and you can have some snacks while you are watching. Reading PillowA pillow like this will consist of a wedge like support for your back that can be either shaped to give good support for your spine, or just be a straight wedge. Attached to this there are specific supports for your arms, like in an armchair, but instead these are made to specifically give your arms a high enough support for you to hold a book. These supports are closer and higher than in a chair, so you can comfortable relax in a good posture without your arms being exhausted from holding the book in a good position.

Usually the neck support is the most important part, and if the pillow, and if you can find one that has memory foam used, you have found something that you should inspect closer. The problem with these high end pillows is that they usually cost quite a lot more than a regular wedge, but if you are a meticulous reader, then you know that it is important to have the benefit that can get from a pillow like this.

Finding the reading pillow that suits your neck and spine can be difficult, and you might end up buying one or two before you find the model that suits you the best. Most likely they will all be better than just reading with your sleeping pillow, but chances are that some of them might even make your neck sore worse than the one you had before – don’t give up if the first one doesn’t fit.
