Choosing A Single Bed Frame For You
Most people prefer larger beds opposed to smaller beds, but sometimes it is not just possible fit a large bed in a small room. It would just take too much space. Moving inside the room would be difficult and you would not be able have all the other furniture you need. If you live alone in a small apartment or if you are looking for a bed for a child then a single bed frame might be a better choice for you, rather than the larger queen or king size. Smaller beds, bed frames and mattresses can be a lot cheaper compared to bigger ones. Bed sheets for smaller beds are also less expensive. You can also get a better quality bed by opting for a smaller one. Manufacturers are often forced to make larger beds from cheaper and lower quality materials to keep the price down. A single bed frame can be made from better materials. As we all know, the quality of sleep has much more to do with the quality of the bed rather than the size of it.
What is the best material for a single bed frame? Traditionally there a two material choices for bed frames: wooden and metallic. Wooden single bed frames come in a variety of different woods, styles and finishes. There are a few things to look out for when buying a wooden bed frame. Most bed frames come disassembled and must be assembled at home. Make sure that you are buying sturdy frame. There are a lot of flimsy frames that start to squeak and rattle after a while. To avoid this, use wood glue when assembling the frame. Some people argue that it makes the disassembling the bed almost impossible and makes moving the bed more difficult, but how often do move to another house? Maybe maximum of two or three times in tens years, but you sleep in your bed almost every night (well some people sleep less).
If you don’t like a wooden bed frame or it does not suit your house decor then the other choice for you is a metal single bed frame. There are two main styles of metallic bed frames available. The first kind is the traditional one made from bent wrought iron rods. Bed frames made from wrought iron can be very heavy even though they look light. They are usually painted or powder coated in dark colors (most usually black. The painted ones have a tendency to stain mattresses and light coloured sheets, so look for one that is powder coated. wrought iron bedframes can sometimes rust if the paint or coating is chipped. Usually this happens when the surface is not properly prepared before the paint job. The good thing is that you can spot these defects in the paint before buying. Just look for any bubbles in the paint. If found, ask for a discount or buy another one.
The other kind of metal single bed frame available is the modern stainless steel one. Stainless steel frames are easy to maintain and do not leave marks on your sheets. But just like wooden frames, stainless steel frames come disassembled. So, you need to avoid flimsy ones. Just make sure that every now and then you tighten the screws, nuts and bolts that hold the bed together. Using a thread locking liquid like Loc-Tite might just do the trick and keep the nuts and bolts well tighten. If that does not work then I guess you can always weld the bed together (if you have the equipment). Which ever bed frame you choose, just make sure it does not clash with any of the existing furniture. And if starting from scratch, choose the bed frame first and then rest of the furniture.
